Six kinds, not thirty-two pieces

Each of the six kinds is equally likely. Drawing from a full set instead would give a pawn eight times out of sixteen, which is right for a board and wrong for "what shall I practise".

The side is a separate coin flip, so white and black are even whatever the piece turns out to be.

A drill, not a position

It draws a piece and stops there. Nothing here knows the rules, so it cannot tell you where that piece could stand.
